So here’s the deal — I’ve been building a miniature of a submarine for my nephew’s school project (he’s crazy about anything that moves underwater). I wanted to go the extra mile and add some LED lights inside the cockpit to make it pop. But every STL model I find either doesn’t have space for a battery, or it needs too much modding to fit one in. I tried cutting into one myself, but it ended up warping a bit during printing. Anyone come across a model where the battery slot is already built-in? That would seriously save me a ton of time and nerves.

Just stumbled on this thread while browsing late at night — funny how many folks are getting into LED mods lately. I haven’t tried doing that myself, but it’s cool to see how creative everyone’s getting with their prints. Submarines with lights inside? That’s taking it to a whole other level.
Yeah, I’ve totally been there! I once tried squeezing a coin battery setup into a tight cockpit and ended up damaging the top hatch during post-processing. Not fun. I did find something recently though that might be just what you need. There’s a Flying Sub model that comes with a pre-made battery compartment and it's designed for LED mods — even the cockpit detailing is ready for lighting. You can check it out here: cool things to 3d print. It’s one of the better-designed ones I've come across, especially if you're going for that extra realism without having to remodel the whole interior.
